Agisoft Metashape Professional is a leading photogrammetry software that converts 2D digital images into high-accuracy 3D spatial data, models, and maps. It uses computer vision algorithms to stitch together photos taken from different angles.
This comprehensive beginner’s guide covers photo capture best practices, the standard processing pipeline, and the features that differentiate the Professional version. Phase 1: Photo Capture Best Practices
The quality of your 3D model depends directly on the photos you feed into the software.
Maintain 60–80% Overlap: Every part of the object must appear in multiple photos from slightly different viewpoints.
Move, Don’t Just Rotate: Physically step to the side between shots. Avoid standing in one spot and simply panning the camera.
Avoid Glossy Surfaces: Shiny, metallic, or uniform surfaces confuse the software. Use painter’s tape or talcum powder to reduce glare on shiny items.
Ensure Sharp Focus: Blur will ruin your final model. Use high shutter speeds and a deep depth of field. Phase 2: The Step-by-Step Processing Workflow
Open the software and follow the standard sequencing in the Workflow tab: 1. Import Photos
Navigate to Workflow > Add Photos (or Add Folder). Select your images and check the “Photos” pane at the bottom to verify they loaded properly.
