The Thunderbird2Jira (also known as Thunderbird Integration for Jira) extension allows users to convert email messages directly into Jira issues or comments without leaving the Thunderbird email client. Here is how to use it to create a Jira issue: 1. Setup and Configuration

Before creating issues, you must configure the extension with your Jira credentials:

Install: Install the Jira Integration Plugin in Thunderbird.

Configure: Open the Thunderbird extension preferences/options and enter your Jira URL, username, and password.

Note: The plugin stores credentials in clear text, so it is recommended to use it at your own risk. 2. Creating a Jira Issue

Select Email: In Thunderbird, locate the email you want to convert into a Jira issue.

Right-Click Menu: Right-click on the email to open the context menu. Select Action: Choose “Create Jira Issue”. Fill Details: A dialogue box will appear allowing you to: Select the Jira Project. Select the Issue Type (e.g., Task, Bug). The email subject becomes the Issue Summary. The email body becomes the Issue Description.

Submit: Confirm the details to create the issue in your Jira instance. 3. Additional Features

Attachments: Email attachments are automatically copied to the new Jira issue.

Comments: You can also right-click and choose “Add as Jira comment” to append email content to an existing issue.

Note: This specific extension was designed for older versions of Thunderbird (e.g., Thunderbird 68) and may not work on newer versions. If you are looking to make this work, I can help you: Check if your Thunderbird version is compatible. Find alternatives if the extension is too old.
